    Parade of Lights to Shine at SPestival

    By: Tristan Parker

    After cutting their teeth touring with various bands around the U.S., L.A.-based musicians Ryan Daly and Anthony Improgo reformed the band they had started themselves several years before with the new name Parade of Lights  also bringing in new members Michelle Ashley and Randy Schulte – realizing that was where their musical commitments remained.

    Rolling between the fuzzy synth-rock of MGMT and sunnier dance-pop, PoL are one of the newest signings to innovative New York-based label Astralwerks. The label is hosting its own stage at SPestival, so to get acquainted with some of its acts, we chatted to Daly.

    New @Twitter-fueled TV Show Preps for Debut in LA

    Julie Zeitlin – The sole member of the U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics team has been cast as a host for an exciting new TV/Social Media project called #OMTZ! (@OhMyTweetz). It’s created by serial entertainment entrepreneur, Greg Gutierrez, who’s Directed and Produced Reality TV pilots and major film projects. He’s also recently penned the Hollywood film, Wiener Dog Nationals (with Jason London and Morgan Fairchild).

    The new TV personality told Apollowati: “It’s literally a Twitter-Hashtag-inspired variety show – I just shot the pilot – and it’s a multi-host format! The opportunity came to me after I met Greg Gutierrez in LA! I’m very excited about this opportunity!” Zeitlan said.

    “The single-host*, legacy TV format probably won’t be as successful. The time for those shows has passed,” Greg Gutierrez said. “I think Millenials (20 somethings) want to watch a group of people with some real diversity, who they can relate to.”

    Julie Zeitlin

    Zetlin, (now 22), is the United States’ only representative for Rhythmic gymnastics and the first and only rhythmic gymnast to qualify from the United States since 2004. (via TIME: http://olympics.time.com/2012/07/05/rhythmic-gymnast-julie-zetlin/#ixzz2hXAlz6Xc)

    *Single-host format shows, however, do not seem to be going anywhere: “Katie,” for example, was the highest-rated freshman talk show last season, and Meredith Vieira recently announced that she will be hosting her own talk show beginning in 2014.

    @Madonna: TRUTH OR DARE?

    That is a catchphrase that’s often associated with me. I made a documentary film with this title, and it has stuck to me like flypaper ever since. It’s a fun game to play if you’re in the mood to take risks, and usually I am. However, you have to play with a clever group of people. Otherwise you’ll find yourself French-kissing everyone in the room or giving blow jobs to Evian bottles! (( More –. ))
